The Rt Rev Frederick Stephen Temple (called "Freddy")[1] was the Suffragan Bishop of Malmesbury from 1973 until 1983. He was born on 24 November 1916 [2] and educated at Rugby and Balliol. Ordained in 1948[3] his first post was a curacy in Newark. Later Rector of St Agnes, Longsight[4] and Dean of Hong Kong he returned to England to be Senior Chaplain to the Archbishop of Canterbury.[5] Following this he was Vicar of St Mary’s Portsea and then Archdeacon of Malmesbury until his ascension to the Episcopate. He retired in 1983[6] and died on 26 November 2000.
